Christmas Eve Candlelight Service

I am so sorry for taking so long to write this! Was quite busy the past few days, so sorry again!

Anyway, on Friday (Dec 24), we were supposed to reach church at around 5pm. However, due to some confusion about the meeting place, Rachel and I only met up with the rest at 5.30pm-ish. Then we went to the stage area to wait for Preacher Yi Xin.

We girls didn't really have to do much, but the guys had to help the movers move the instruments and equipment to the stage. I was only in charge of looking after the bags, so I just sat there and stoned.

Below are some photos taken when I was stoning:

Taken when I didn't know how to use the zoom function.

Taken after I realised how to zoom in.

Anyway, after all the moving and setting up, we went to eat dinner at Cathay. We came back at around 8pm to practise for later. All the choir members had to stand at stage right (means that from the audience's point of view, its on the left) while the musicians stood on stage left (naturally). Then we ran through several sound checks and practised the songs. Thereafter, the choir members were given free time to do whatever they wanted to do while the musicians practised the transitionings together with the 2 preachers.

10pm marked the start of the service! Rev Burke from the English Congregation first came up to light the candle, then one pastor from each congregation came to welcome the church members. We sang 3 songs, followed by a reading of a passage from the Bible. Rev Burke then gave a sermon on Jesus - where He is in our lives. We learnt that Jesus shouldn't just be the baby in the Nativity scene to us - otherwise He wouldn't be able to save us from our sins. Jesus had to grow up, die on the cross, resurrect and finally, ascend to heaven. Only then will we truly be saved.

After the short but impactful sermon, the congregation sang a few more songs, heard a few more pastors and preachers read passages from the Bible, and then sang the last 2 songs "Go Tell It On The Mountain" and "We Wish You A Merry Christmas". The choir members then started releasing the poppers which created a huge mess. When the candlelight service ended, the congregation was invited to attend the Christmas service in the sanctuary.

While the service was carried out, we had to help clear up the mess from the poppers, as well as pack some of the props that we used for the stage (for example, the rocks and pebbles). It was really funny when the plastic bag that we used to store the pebbles gave way - all the pebbles spilled out! Deacon Kai Min (Grace's father) then brought a box for us to keep the pebbles instead. We also went to sort out the confetti from the poppers - we had to separate plastic from paper so that we can put them in the correct recycling bin. It was very troublesome, but I guess we now know how difficult the job of the people at the recycling centre is.

After that, some of us went home, while the rest of us went back in to the sanctuary to join the Christmas Service. It was a very tiring day indeed.

I shall post photos on another day!

Life impact camp!

Lifegame,in short, was a lesson in itself =) it's AWESOME TOO. More updates to come!

Edit: whooooooooooooops after so many days of um, finding excuses, i'm back again to updating stuff about the camp again! =DD

Well just a slight note beforehand that i'm typing this from the perspective of a volunteer, so experiences might differ from the perspective of a participant! =)

A volunteer might attend the camp for free, but the amount of things that is expected of he/she seems to fulfilled the price paid for the camp! for starters we had to go to the campsite a day earlier in order to prepare the campsite for the game. But for us, who've went through the lifegame before, we were willing to do it with open cheerful hearts, in anticipation of the fun we would have and perhaps, the people we would touch. in spite of that, the logistics preparation was pretty horrible and we were kind of exhausted by dinnertime! at least we had fun setting up and stuff like that =) so we finished by nightfall, and i went to sleep earlier, the rest were playing monopoly deal! =O oh, and i forgot to mention that we had good sleeping quarters, compared to last year at least =D

Overall, while i am obliged not to reveal what exactly happened throughout the camp for the next 3 days 2 nights (or 2 days 2 nights at least), but i can safely say that the exhaustion, the endless times of staying back and preparing for hours on end, even the discouragements along the way paid off somehow, especially seeing the participants respond to the call of sacrifice at the altar day after day. Of course, this doesn't mean that all the participants were impacted positively; some left the camp and quit the game on day 1, being too disheartened by all that occured on that day so far, and needless to say, us volunteers were even more disheartened, for we knew day 2 would be so much more meaningful. Then again, when we pause and think, isn't this a reflection of our walk with God, in life, as well? Alot of times we are beaten down in mind and heart and even body, and we barely have the strength to get back up, sometimes like the campers that left we don't even want to get up. Thank God that there are always 'saints beyond that cheer us all the way' (Heaven is counting on you =)! We should also have faith in God cause He knows everything, and He knows when day 2 in our life would come.

Well i think that's basically some of the most important reflections i got from the camp,so yup! Do go for one of these camps if you haven't already done so!

Everyone says hi!!!

It's the 16 already =O

So,in the morning as usual we started with devotions first! Two worship songs (thanks Jia Xi!),then Rachel started the day by going through 12 Corinthians:1-10 . We learnt that Christ wants us to be continually humble so He gives all of us certain weaknesses so that we would always rely on Him! Verse 9 clearly states this 'Christ's power may rest on me' and apostle paul's experience and sharing is a great comfort to me because no matter who we are,He loves us and treats us all the same as His children =)) also Rachel mentioned how one must be empty,so that they would be filled again fully,if not it will be impossible to fully fill a cup that is nearly filled to the brim, which relates back to the point about humility again yep! So we can see that one must be really humble to enjoy the Lord and glorify Him! haha if there's anything else pr. Gideon please add on yea =)

After devotion the other interns had to go and buy stuff for Christmas decorations, while i went back to the intern room to discuss the bible study to be conducted during chalet with Charmian! (Shhhhh contents are a secret hahaha)

Anw,so,3 hours later (can you believe we took 3 hours to prepare a single bible study which would ultimaely take only an hour!!). They came back, carrying all sorts of weird stuff hahaha. Then me and Charmian conlcuded our preparation too and we went to hail cab to get to east coast park for bible study! Phew,i can tell you it wasn't easy at all trying to hail a single cab man, cause it's like,5 cabs drive down the road, and they're all full =.= and the not-so-full cabs make up mostly the big cars whose fares start from 3.20 onwards =O so we ended up (or porlin did) shooting out our hands and hastily retracting it back everytime lurxury lookalike cab comes! hahahahha. But then again,we got a mercedes-benz lookalike cab in the end...... ><

We had the bible study at east coast kfc with Joel (Yi Le) and Seth! There were supposed to be more of their non-Christian friends coming but they didn't,so it was down to us interns and them attending the study yep. Joel told us that he lost his wallet at first, but thank God they later found out that it was actually at home! Heng ah...... =)) anw so,we talked about biking at first,fr the first half hour or so,then moved on to the bible study! Pr.Gideon gave us a magazine which details how to start people on a journey of faith, and how to continue walking in it and experiencing God's love with them all the while. A point that struck me was how God has already forgiven our sins, and we do not need to ask Him for forgiveness anymore because of one single action on the cross. The marvelous thing is that the more we go back to this gospel, the more i find that God's love is truly divine. Then we learnt a few steps to carry out whenever we repent and confess our sins,to agree that we've sinned, thank God that He has already done so,and trust that He'll continue to change our thoughts and actions and sanctify us!  Yup! After that we watched them show their stunts on the pathway, and it’s quite eye-popping hahaha =O I even tried a little when they offered to teach me,but I couldn’t do any of course!

Seth and Joel showing off some of their tricks, cool man!!

                                                                 Bicycling in the rain...

Then we cabbed to pastamania at sing post, and met Nat and Grace for dinner. Pasta wasn’t too bad, could’ve been more though! And we discussed a few things about choir and fellowship over dinner and after dinner and walked around abit. Little concrete stuff came out of the discussions, but hopefully we started something =) and after dinner, that was the end of the day! Until next time =D

Another Peaceful Day (+ working like factory staffs)

We began our day with a (very late) morning devotion.. I was the first intern to reach! Yay! We started singing with Pr. Gideon as the pianist (very pro lae!) and we prayed for the coordination between youth ministries (信实团契,喜乐z, choir and Praise & Worship), different ministries and different churches as well as the growth of our youth service when waiting for Rachel to start the morning devotion. Poor Rachel, her body clock has not been tuned back yet.. Better hurry up tune back or else the fines will burn a hole in your pocket.. Haha.. When Rachel reached, we continued with a few more prayers and officially began the morning devotion.. Today was Timothy's turn to lead the morning devotion.. His inspiration actually came when he was jogging.. Haha.. We read John 11:17-22 and Timothy told us to find keywords in the passage.. Ok.. Now this is the difference between an experienced devotion leader and me (first timer) yesterday.. Haha.. I better learn from him to improve! Timothy explained the keywords 'if you had been here' and 'even now'.. We often blame God for things that we want it to happen but it did not or things that we did not want it to happen but it did but we have this comfort knowing that EVEN NOW God will still give us what we ask for.. We then shared about our experience in losing faith and being unhappy with God... Rachel and I talked about PW (of course please..) while Pr. Gideon shared about his naturally intelligent friends and Timothy shared about his experience during the planning of tuan qi open house when he was 团长..

After morning devotion, we went back to our 'house' and resume with our personal ministry project.. Rachel went to pick leaves again, I began writing procedures cum job scope for 陪谈员 while Timothy read the notes that Hong Li Chuan Dao gave us... Rachel then came back with a bag of washed leaves (but i still think its dirty.. eww.. can't believe she touched them) and placed them nicely on used paper for them to dry.. TIME FLEW PAST US.. Its was soon time for lunch.. Yu Zhu Lao Shi brought us to the shop beside Hans in Park Mall and the set meals there are not too bad and not too expensive.. Great place to eat.. I wanna go back again..

After lunch, we went to help Auntie Chun Hua with some church stuff.. We finally realised the benefits of specialisation, constant repetition brings great dexterity (those study econs i am sure you know what i am talking about).. haha.. We study too much le la.. This kind of things also can apply to helping with church stuff.. Timothy specialised in poking (quoting Pr. Gideon: 'Facebook will love us'... haha) the plastic wrapping of the DVDs, Rachel specialised in unwrapping (like a scavenger.. haha.. with her precious plastic babies), Pr. Gideon specialised in pasting the stickers on the box (easier for me to remove to paste on DVDs) while I specialise in pasting the stickers on DVDs and packing the DVDs in 100 per box.. After a while, we went mentally unstable (must be the lack of fresh air).. ALL of us started laughing at little things and we talked about crazy and lame stuffs.. When Jia Xi finally arrived, he must have thought that we are mad or something.. haha.. Oh i forgot to add in.. Auntie Chun Hua gave us some CUTE small potong ice cream to eat when resting.. Yum Yum! Thank you! At last, after some trouble (details too long.. haha), we then packed up and was free to do our own stuffs.. I went home! haha.. The rest of them had to stay for choir practice.. Jia Yous! haha..

Heres some photos:
Just getting started!

Look at the amount of DVDs we have to open and stick stickers on

Still have more..

Even more..

Our specialisation course (Pr. Gideon stick stickers on box, Timothy poke holes in wrapping, Rachel  unwrapping her babies)

First completed set of 100 DVDs.. counted by me (for a super long time cos.. they know why.. haha)

Our specialisation course again with Rachel's babies filling up the table

Happy despite the mindless work!
Thats all by me!

TODAY WAS A PEACEFUL DAY

Yes Tuesday was indeed a very quiet day compared to the past week where we were all hectically trying to settle down into the working environment in church and then trying to complete our homework and attend music lessons simultaneously!

Our devotion in the morning was led by Porlin, who gave a very good sharing on the need for us to embody the fruits of the Holy Spirit in our daily lives. She also fantastically clarified yet again, the fact that although our sins are crucified on the Cross when we became Christians, we still lead sinful lives due to our human nature and our way of living. Thus this calls for the need to discard our nature and mindset in order to follow God. Great Job Porlin!:D

After the morning worship and devotion , we headed out for lunch with MANY of the church's VIP staff - 牧师 and 传道们! It felt like we were attending a super important lunch meeting! We went to this small but cozy coffeeshop upstairs in POMO, located at the Paradiz Centre in Dhoby Ghaut, a mere walking distance from our church! The food was good, they gave ALOT of rice and the prices were wallet friendly! My fried rice was GOOOOD but the best food so far - as mentioned by Jia Xi - is their Hokkien Mee, which he claims is the BEST in Singapore! You should try it too if you have the chance!

After lunch we went back to LAPTOPPING, which basically meant us doing our internship assignments. The reason why I'm the 'freeiest' of all was because i mistook the instruction that our internship assignments must be handed in by Tuesday morning, when in actual fact we can hand them in at the end of every Tuesday! HOW BLUR! >_<  So when i came to church, i ended up being the only one who has completed the work for the week! Porlin had also finished much of her work so we had time to chill while the guys had a VERY TOUGH TIME trying to rush their work!

So because we were free the two of us started on our Personal Ministry Project! Porlin started on her 招待事工 instructions while i started coming up with ideas for our 青年崇拜 noticeboard! I decided to use leaves to decorate our board (Shhhh, it's a secret, so do wait patiently while i revamp our noticeboard 360 degrees!). As 以心传道 requested twigs to make the cott where baby Jesus lay, i decided to go downstairs to the backyard of our church to collect leaves and twigs. Guess what! Only after a mere 10 mins, I ended up gettting FIERCLY bitten by mosquitoes that were behaving like they have never seen a human before! Grr all the bites! But luckily, two of our church's cleaning staff saw me and came over to help! One literally climbed the almost vertical rock face to uproot 3 small 'trees' for me while the other constantly used a cloth to fan away the mosquitoes around me! All i could do was to just stand there and look stunned, because i were just so amazed at their generosity to help me! Praise the Lord!

So after that little escapade from our intern office, we continued with work all the way till 4pm and i went home with Porlin while the guys (poor them! haha) had to stay back to complete their assignments!

Here are some photos!:

That's all for now! Bye!

Day 5th and 6th of our internship =)

Music Training workshop

Hi, this is my first time doing a blog so please forgive me if i did a bad job.. =)
I really don't know what to begin writing. Hahas.. Ok, time to get serious.. I'm writing this blog mainly is to comment about some of my opinions and feelings about the music ministry training workshop. Basically, this is organised by Preacher Rebecca (Yi Xin Chuan Dao) and there were four teachers mentoring the students. Our aim for this training was organised to train new pianists of the next generation to serve the Lord in the music ministry. Through serious discussion, we felt that this training should be conducted by sharing our own music experience and the appreciation of music, that should be the way!! Rather than having it through boring and serious lectures. The training last for three days which include a mini concert or rather named as a repertoire. The duration of each training is about two and a half hours. The training consists of having a short sharing of the teacher's experience, then spliting into four groups of four which undergo about an hour or more of teaching. After which, we ended it with a short performances by the students of what they have learnt.

For the first day of training, i was assigned with a teacher, whom was a Yamaha teacher. We have taught the students chord's knowledge and piano improvisations. I told them basically music is all made up of chords and when we've master it, we can simply apply it in any music we love. Pop, Rock, jazz etc.. Even in Classical music. We can apply the knowledge into any music we love. So everything is all about playing by ear.. This is what makes a true and real musician. I told the students to be sure and familiarise with the melody of the song that they are playing and use ur ears to transfer everything to the piano. So all of them were given a chance to try and play. When they understand it, i moved on to chords knowledge and told them to add chords to their playing. That's basically for the the first day of training. I felt that it's a good experience for both teachers and students, especially me. Through this training, i really gain a lot. People always says that when u're willing to share ur knowledge selflessly, eventually u will also gain much at the same time. And when i'm teaching them, i felt this special feeling. A feeling of joy!! Perhaps this is the joy of teaching.. When i'm watching the students learning and growing, i was really glad and happy. At the same time, i hope that the students can also feel the enjoyment of music and understand what i've told them..

On the second day, our students were separated into two groups, whereby each of us taught different class. I was relieved that there will not be two teachers teaching in a class as both of us will have different opinions and teaching methods, which will result in conflicts between the both of us and affect the student's learning development. (I have no offence towards the Yamaha teacher) I was assigned to teaching two students whom one of them was a student of JiaYing's class. They were attentive in class and obeying my instructions, but i was puzzled whether they understand my teaching as they were nodding consistantly whenever i asked them if they understand.

Finally the training has come to an end, every student was required to perform a song taught by their teacher. This mini concert was held at chapel and the students can invite their parents and friends to watch. Refreshments were provided to increase bondings between church members. There were some time for the teachers to brush up their students playing techniques. Soon after, at around 11.30am the performances begin. The students did a great job in preparing their songs but due to stage fright, they tend to make careless mistakes that i felt can be improved on. The interns did well especially Porlin and Li Ting as i felt that they had put in lots of effort in preparing for their perfomances and they were able to lead the congregation in worship. Timothy had also done an excellent job in his performance and there's still room for improvement. As for Rachel, she has not touched the piano for more than six years but i was surprised that she could meet the expectation of her teacher. Well done to all interns!!!
"Opps I am stepping on the wrong pedal, can I restart again?"

What surprised me for that day was that my students did better than what i've expected as they were able to master what i've taught them. I was really shocked by their vast improvement. Finally, everyone has finished their performance but unexpectedly, the four teachers were requested to perform a song on the spot. I was unable to react immediately but soon overcoming it. Then i chose “我的心你要称颂耶和华” to improvise and perform. But i was rather disappointed by what i'm playing. I admit i did not do a good job on that day.. =(

Overall the training went fine and i felt this is a very good opportunity for everyone to learn and share music together, at the same time praise the Lord.

Children and Adult Evangelism

Right after the music training on the morning, at about one in the afternoon.. Children sunday school organized this evangelism event to spread the gospel to the grandparents of the children. The children came out with a small acting performance of the birth of Jesus Christ which they spent about a month and a half to prepare for it. The children were adorable and cute especially the babies who act as sheep, crawling on the floor and making sound of sheep. Mainly the whole event was the devotion and sharing of gospel by Preacher Meng Xia. Everyone was feeling very happy and enjoying the whole Christmas evangelism. :)

At the night, the adult evangelism conducted by Yishun region fellowship, 古早喜乐 fellowship and adult choir. They invited two oldies singer to present us with a line up of oldies song in various languages and dialects. I'm still able to appreciate chinese oldies when they were singing it but when they started to sing dialect songs, i admit i was really getting tired and i could not understand it and to the stage that i even fell asleep. I'm really sorry for that disrespectful behaviour.. After the singing session, we invited a speaker to preach the word of God to everyone. Our aim is to spead the gospel and preach the real meaning of Christmas. When i was listen, i felt that the speaker was rather energetic when he was preaching important messages. He was really loud, perhaps he wanted to wake those who were sleeping.. But the whole message that he wanted to bring across was really clear cut and meaningful. Seriously, the feedback from the crowd was really well. Many people attended it and brought quite a number of their friends.

In the both Christmas evangelism, it was successful and i believe the committee organizing it has really done a great job. Although everything turned out well, but i was really tired and worn out after the long busy week. I hope i've enough energy and may God give me strength for the days to come especially tomorrow.
Ok it's really very very late now and i've only a few hours to sleep before going to church. Goodbye!!! :)

Take a look at the cute babies!!!

The Fourth Day

Hello! As you guessed, this is day 4’s record! =D=D and it marks the start of us reporting to church at 9.30 at level 3 meeting room 2 =) this is our office area btw! So if you’re free or anything come and crash! Heeee
The music ministry training was organised by preacher Rebecca (yi xin chuan dao),and there were four teachers teaching us,yili (can you picture her being a teacher!!),jia xi (this helps you further fulfill your dreams doesn’t it!),jia ying (hi I don’t know much about you but thanks for teaching me on fri! =) and yi xin chuan dao herself! So the training started with the chuan dao sharing about her love for music in general, and how she viewed it as the best way and the one of the most meaningful ways of serving and worshipping. But she also shared about how sometimes the instrument used as a medium for worship can betray your true feelings and reveal your heart! Having played the piano for years I really feel what she says. So one lesson we might take away is that we should always worship with a clean heart! One that is forgiven in God’s eyes =) After that,we had to split up into different groups, each one containing 3-4 people (oh,around 15 students attended btw) and mentored by a teacher. I was under yi xin chuan dao,how stressful! Hahaha =) but the lesson was rather enriching, cause sometimes,no matter how I experiment at the piano,I won’t get all the rhythms and variations and inversions and whatnot!! So thank God that at least there’s He gave me a chance to learn and use this training programme as a springboard to develop my piano playing further hopefully! =D but still rather taxing! Cause you need to keep up with the people, and I have a tendency to repeat whatever I played wrongly. Sorry to everyone who was affected and couldn’t sing cause of my piano playing!! >< >< will try harder next time =)
So after that, lunch! There’s this mall called peace centre (seriously!) located further down the street after pomo plaza, and there’s a malay stall on the 4th floor which sells rather good food! Interesting though, cause there’s lots of shops around which offer lots of printing services, and sell all kinds of stuff. So basically most of the shops in this place, though old, fill a gap which the shops in the newer shopping malls fill and act as a vital complement to them, since one never,or rarely sees printing services being offered at Nex or something right? Quite a pity!
And so begins the next programme of the day, visit to Bukit Batok! The journey from providence to bukit batok church was X.X cause we need to take a 30 min train ride from dhoby to raffles place to jurong east and then take another 15 mins bus ride,so factoring in the waiting time it took ONE HOUR to travel,my goodness! But thank God we still live in Singapore (red dot!) ,so I guess we should count our blessings before grumbling!
The preacher in charge of bukit batok is called rui fu (not sure Chinese heh) =) and he gave us,in summary,a very enlightening introduction of and explanation to the structure of the church, and how the youth ministry works in conjunction with this.
Here’s some of what he said, and how I felt with regards:
1) One of the points that struck me most was the church’s emphasis and very strong prayer. why is it that their average attendance at dao gao hui can reach an AVERAGE OF 170 PEOPLE? One of their methods,we were told, was to place all the verses in a balloon filled with during mid-autumn festival, attach it to a string and tie the string to the roof of the church, and after the dao gao hui, they burst the balloon such that verses spray all over the church. The scene would be so beautiful right! Hahaha. Basically they are very creative when it comes to thinking of ideas to get people to come, couple that with most members staying very near the church premises and its easy to see why so many come every dao gao hui. Gideon encouraged us to do something similar too! More of,and more fun youth dao gao hui sessions anyone? =D=D
2) Another point was their structure. They are very specific and well-defined in terms of groups, having nearly 20 zhi tis in all! And furthermore, each zhi ti has to be under the charge of a pastor or preacher or deacon and so this ensures no zhi ti is left out of the support of the church. A lot of manpower is needed as the number of groups grow, but I guess this is an incentive for the church to grow faster? Haha =) however having that many groups ensures that the church has room to grow and can steadily support itself since the burden of the church is distributed among the groups, not everything being piled upon the church deacons, preachers and pastors. Our youth service has already come up with something like that, but It would only be implemented next year,so hopefully our structure will work out as well too!
3) The difference between our church’s youth service and tuan qi and their youth tuanqis in terms of organization is rather striking. For starters, all the children aged 0-13 attend zhu ri xue, then those 13-16 attend another service,17-23 attend a tuan qi called, creatively enough,1723 tuan qi! 23-30 attend yet another, and 30 onwards attend another. So we can see that they separate the youths primarily by age group, from cradle to grave, literally! While one may think that the structure is too rigid, but the advantage of this is that most of the youths are very close knit, since youths of the same age will always get together, and these youths then move into the different tuan qis with little problem since they move as a group. Also,if the youths are uncomfortable moving into another tuan qi when they reach the age limit, the preacher in charge will allow them to stay in that tuqn qi for the next year or so until they are ready to move on.
4) While I’ve never met them in person before,1723 tuan qi left another deep impression on me. For starters, their tuanqi is also divided into many groups, just like the main service e.g. under guan huai shi gong they already have jun ren zhi gong and zu zhang. The committee for the tuan qi has very clearly defined roles, which are all neatly printed in black and white on a small booklet, and also the direction for the tuan qi is set clearly by the preacher; these two combine to greatly reduce the burden on the committee to figure out what to do and how to do it.

A distinctive feature of 1723 tuanqi (because as far as I know no other tuan qis do this) is also their meeting day and time; Saturday at 4 in the afternoon! You can imagine how surprised some of us (or was it just me) were when we heard that, but this proves to be a huge asset because little time is wasted meeting up to have tuan qi on Sunday and instead those attending tuan qi can serve full time on Sunday as well. Hence you see that over 40 attends 1723 tuan qi,and over 40 will also serve as zhu ri xue lao shis and such on Sunday. But maybe one’ll ask, won’t this clash with other outside commitments e.g. school and work? The preacher said that most of the members end their commitments in the afternoon, and so they’ll head over to tuan qi straight after. Also he warned us that if we have to change the tuan qi timing from Sunday to Saturday, there’s gonna be an inevitable loss of people, because 1723 went through the same experience. But he also said that,if we do the transition properly,we can minimize this loss, and in the long run the gains would come to outweigh the losses (econs!!) can faithfulness embark on a similar idea? Should it? Haha it’s a good point to mull over!
Nice christmas tree!

Close up!

Phew, that was quite a lot hmmm >< anw so after the meeting,we toured Bukit Batok premises, and took two pictures!
After that we went off to Gideon’s house to have dinner! If faithfulness is ever gonna have any meals we should have them at his house cause his mum is really an awesome cook! I mean, she cooked the 3 plates of chicken,a plate of tofu,a bowl of eggs,a plate of kai lan,a plate of beansprout,2 bowls of gravy and lots and lots of chicken rice all by herself! Idk about you guys, but to me it was 0.0 cause I rarely see people whipping up entire meals all by themselves these days; one ingredient or another is usually bought as pre-packed food. Gideon you and your brother and sister are quite lucky! =)
So,after that we chilled abit, played piano and went home around 10! Tiring, but a busily good day =) ok my post ends here, sorry for the delay, and the length, cause I was held up for the past few days and I like to type very long sentences! =.=
-Guess who this is hahaha =D

Justification and Sanctification

Hi All,

Since we are having quite a fruitful and important discussion on this topic, thought I'll post Porlin's  and Tim's reply here in regards to the "Not Yet" aspect of our famous "Already and Not Yet" doctrine. Here it is:

With regards to the "not yet" part... We are already justified and sanctified like the verse you quoted but to add on, we have not yet been judged by God since Christ has not yet come for the second time so we are not proclaimed to be justified. Quoting D.M. Lloyd-Jones, “We have only been made righteous in the sense that God regards us as righteous, and pronounces us to be righteous”. This means that on one hand, we are already considered as righteous (justified) in Christ, on the other hand, we have not been given the temporal “chop” that we are justified in the Judgement.

Sanctification is mentioned in the bible in two different ways. Firstly, sanctification is something that has taken place when God set us apart for service to Him. This sanctification is ours because we are saved, because we are in Christ (1 Corinthians 1:2). Secondly, the Bible refers to sanctification as a process that involves a moral and spiritual change in us once we are saved. No one attains to complete sanctification in this life (1 John 1:8), hence the “not yet”. The Scriptures tell us that the saints in heaven are completely free from the power of sin (Hebrews 12:23; Revelation 14:5). This means our sanctification is completed either at or immediately after death. As The Shorter Catechism Q37 states ‘The souls of believers are at their death made perfect in holiness and do immediately pass into their glory…” In other words, we start the process of sanctification the moment we believe.

Very Well Written Porlin and Tim! =) Good job!

Half asleep....

Good times together

Third day of the internship! This marked the end of our stay in the chalet. In the morning, we, Ji Dian Chuan Dao and the girls, decided to not wait for the guys and headed for the bowling alley to eat breakfast. However, the cafe there had not yet opened, so we had to turn back. We then checked out of the chalet and took a taxi to Funan to eat breakfast instead.
The Boys are exhausted after the chalet
After breakfast, we walked all the way to the Bible House to listen to Hong Li Chuan Dao talk about our church and the congregation at Bible House. We learnt:
1. The premises of the Bible House congregation is a fusion of both tradition and contemporary design. This is because heritage must be preserved even as we move along with the times.
2. Why the 讲台 in the Orchard Road premises is on stage right! Its part of the Scottish design that had been passed down from then to now.
3. That PPCFC is aiming to be family-oriented. We also learnt of its purpose: 培育基督的仆人,装备社区的领袖。
4. That PPCFC is targeting youths and undergrads/university students. This is done by "enticing" them with free internet access as well as refreshments.
and many more....
After a tour around the place, we were given a short quiz about the history of our church! It was, unfortunately, very badly done because we just could not remember the various important dates. But I'm sure we'll be able to do better by the end of our internship!
Thereafter, we walked back to church and dumped our luggage there, then walked up to the Presbyterian HQ 基督教新加坡长老大会. We listened to an Elder talk about the Presbyterian Church while we ate lunch.
First of all, the structure:
The Synod 大会 is like the "head", and then it spilits into the English Presbytery 英文中会 and the Chinese Presbytery 华文中会. All the churches then belong to either the EP or the CP.
Then, the Elder talked about John Calvin, the originator of the reformation movement, and a little about Calvinism.
He also told us about the "I Love Asia" programme that is currently ongoing. Next year, the theme is "I Love Singapore"! And it coincides nicely with the 130th anniversary of the Presbyterian Church in Singapore! Haha.
After the approximately 1 hour long talk, Elder kindly drove us back to church. Most of us then went home from there, and this marks the end of Day 3.

Fun Fun Fun FIRST.. then work..

Second day of work... We went to Auntie Shao Zhen (cooking mama)'s house... She brought us to the Shunfu Market to buy the ingredients for the dishes we were going to cook that afternoon.. It was a surprise to us when she knew every single stall uncles and aunties... We learnt many things about meat (Bu Jian Tian! haha) and vegetables... After that we went back to her house and learnt how to cook Curry Chicken, Tofu with prawn and Vegetable with salted and century egg... She taught us how to cook dishes easily by "cheating" (using those pre-made packets).. I am sure we are now able to cook some dishes! Hoped that the food was delicious for the Chuan Daos and Mu Shis... The pilot interns worked together for the very FIRST time, washing the many dishes and drying them.. We had fun while doing those chores and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly at her house.. Beacon (Sausage, Ham, Turkey.. haha) we will miss you! Finally! Its time for our chalet.. Sadly Rachel couldn't join us but im sure she had fun at her prom... We took a taxi to the chalet and got a shock of our life! Wow! The bungalow was FANCY and HUGE! First thing! Arcade! Haha.. it was fun but too little games to play.. Next up.. The guys decided to go bowling while the girls become the cheering squad.. We had dinner at the bowling alley before returning to the bungalow for bible study led by Ji Dian Chuan Dao... We learnt the important concept of ALREADY BUT NOT YET.. In Christ, we are already justified (no longer legally guilty) and continually sanctified (no longer corrupted) BUT not yet proclaimed to be justified and sanctified... Faith is both a VERB and NOUN.. We have faith by believing in Him and it should be followed by actions to show our faith... We ended with the sharing of how we can improve in this area and prayers.. Yay! We get to play a board game, Settlers of Catan... I WON!! haha.. it was fun.. I know all of us will never forget Timothy's words "Think carefully first" to Li Ting.. The bargaining part is really really fun.. haha.. Time to sleep and prepare for the next day of work!

THE BEGINNING

IN THE BEGINNING, GOD CREATED HEAVEN & EARTH.
And HUMANS later on.

So here we are, the LORD's INTERNS!

Yup so here's the new blog for us to record down our church internship journey!

It's quite cool actually, when your friends ask: "who are you working for?", you can reply them with: "I work for GOD" :D Of course not just any God, but for the ONE and ONLY.

So let's enjoy these 2 months working together FOR and WITH the Lord!
On monday, 6th december 2010, in the not-so-wee hours of the morning at around 10am plus, we watched a video on the history of our church, 长老会恩泽堂Providence Presbyterian Church (PPC)! Our church was actually of Scottish origin, and intially became a church exclusively for foreigners of European descent. This soon posed as a problem because it did not serve the purpose of spreading the gospel and inhibited other people living in Singapore an opportunity to attend church to know God better. This is mainly because these people neither spoke nor understood English or any European languages. In the later years, as the number of Chinese immigrants in Singapore increased trememdously, many churches that provided congregations in dialects were set up. As such, 陈祥康牧师 saw the importance of holding a permanent church service in Chinese in Singapore. Thus, after many years of discussions and proposals, a Chinese speaking church service was set up at the then 乌节路长老会Orchard Road Presbyterian Church (ORPC). This became the FIRST Presbyterian Chinese church service in Singapore! It sure was and still is an honour for us!:D
Later on, 张牧师 gave a very interesting and enlightening speech about the changes that our church has experienced in recent years. From his speech, we then knew that our church used to own the land that the Carlton Hotel now occupies, but due to poor decision-making, the land was unfortunately sold and now the value of the land is beyond our imaginations. >.<
Another learning point from his speech was that our church has constantly been very active in  evangelism宣教事工, both in Singapore and overseas, especially in neighbouring SEAsian countries. 张牧师 is a pioneer of many of the overseas missionary trips to countries like Vietnam, Myanmar and Thailand. He is now in charge of PPC's 中国宣教事工, which was previously managed by 陈清福牧师.
张牧师 later treated us lunch at Han's! What a gentleman! Timothy, you better learn from him! HAHA! :D
After lunch, we went over to 绍珍姐妹's (aka Cooking Ma Ma) house to discuss the lunch menu for  Tuesday. Our first assignment as PPC interns is to cook for our church's 教牧! Our job scope is sure interesting! We sure had fun deciding on the dishes! Timothy even wanted to cook her dog, Bacon! Naughty boy >:{
So that was all for our first day at work! We're now sure to look forward to more interesting job assignments in these upcoming 2 months! :D
